Normandie Depression Glass

Normandie depression glass is quite the hot item when it comes to its plates which are pretty rare. The pink depression glass plates are the most sought after plate you could own. But first a little history on Normandie style glass. Normandie was made by Federal Glass Company from about 1933-1939. The various different colors that have been so far discovered are Pink, Amber and Iridescent depression glass.

Some of the most valuable pieces you should look for are the Amber and Pink Dinner plates which range from $50-$150 dollars with the pink being most valuable. Probably the rarest and hardest to find though would be the Sugar Lids which have pointed and non pointed edge variants. An amber lid can fetch over $100 dollars, whereas a pink depression glass lid can be valued over $500 dollars. Amber and Pink pitchers are also of value, and ranging from $100 to over $200 dollars. Of interesting note is the fact that the names “sunburst” and “golden glow” were given to the colors of amber and iridescent.

Old Cafe Depression Glass

Old cafe depression glass is a nice type of add to collection glass. Primarily pink depression glass, Old Cafe was made by Hocking Glass Company between 1936-1938. Some things such as matching saucers to ruby cups have not been discovered as of yet. The different items that have been discovered are, a mint vase, olive dish, several size bowls ranging from 4.5″ to 6.5″, sherbert plates, dinner plates, juice tumbler and regular tumbler.

As for pricing of Old Cafe depression glass, as was mentioned most being pink depression glass, a tall juice pitcher is what has been sold for the most at approximately $500 dollars. A purple mint tray has also been discoverd, but there has not been put a price as of yet on it or its value. Aside from these the lamps of all colors are the most valuable depression glass pieces to collect, ranging from approximately $100-$300 dollars in value. Also of nice value would be any relish sets you could find.

The most value is going to be the pink depression glass, followed by Ruby depression glass, and then the crystal being of lesser value.

Depression Glass Beginnings

Depression glass is obviously known for its beginnings back in the time of the depression. Most depression glass was made up in the midwest during this period. depression glass was most of the time given out or sold at such a low cost in order to attract people to purchase other things. Even movie theaters would give out depression glass.

There are many colors of depression glass that were made at this time and created in over 100 different styles. Often times in whole matching dinner sets. The pink depression glass is probably some of the more popular and sought after color, but rare colors such as yellow, black, jadeite, delphite, red, cobalt blue, and even white were made with the help of low cost producing machinery.

Some pieces today can sell for hundreds of dollars. Depression glass is being reproduced in our day as well since of its popularity. You can find many of the Pink depression glass colors as well as green and blue which are popular as well. truly a wonderful and beautiful product!
